ARGH!!!
November 27th, 2005 taniithBefore I start my rant, I just want to ask readers to give suggestions if you have any… PLEASE!
So, I was trying to make a portfolio DVD of my work using Adobe Encore DVD 1.5. Yesterday, I finally finished the music for the movie I made in my class this summer. But, as with this summer, the movie has problems with playback on DVD. There are sequences of text that are just still images from photoshop… generally 3 seconds long each. The movie plays fine on computers as a file, but when played on DVDs the text is shown for one frame, and then the first frame of the next animation is shown for the rest of the 3 seconds. As you can imagine, this makes it imposible to make a portfolio DVD.
I think the problem is from a choice when exproting from Adobe Premiere called “optimize stills.” Apparently, using the example of my video, this option takes the 90 frames of the same still image and converts them into one 3 second long frame. My guess is that the computer can handle this, but the DVD player cannot. The only two options I see are:
A: Find all of the files, recreate the project in Premiere, and export it anew
B: Cut out all of the areas that have text, put in new text and export it anew anyway
Then again…. I think I figured out how to do it. I had to mask some stuff in two text areas, and when I exported they were saved as normal animations and work fine on the DVD. So I just need to export all the text areas in Adobe After Effects and export it all again. That sounds too easy, but what the hell right? ;)
I’ll post this anyway, even though I figured it out. Anyone know a better way to do this?
edit: Well, it worked in the end. Of course, the DVD software was happy enough to make a CD instead, but it wont play on DVD players…. it says its playing but makes strange grinding noises instead. Oh well, at least my portfolio is ready for my meeting on friday.
