“This Is Not Acceptable!”

March 31st, 2006 Taniith

And no, I’m not just quoting Esher again.

Anyone who lives in the greater Boston area has most likely heard of (and/or just heard) Classical 102.5 WCRB…. Boston’s all classical radio station. Well, I recently heard a rumor about the station being sold and no longer being a classical station. After some time, it looked like this was false information…. that is until I picked up the Newton Tab today. Apparently the sale is to be concluded shortly (as in days from now), and then the new owners will be able to do whatever they want with it. This is insane in my opinion…. how can you just throw away half a million listeners. Is that good business?

Now we wont have any all classical stations around Boston…. just like so many other cities. For many years, I have listened to 102.5 while I fell asleep. I know certain commercials by heart, I can recognize the announcers with some ease and I have trouble falling asleep in a quite room these days. Hell, when we went to my cousin’s bar mitzvah 4-5 years ago, I had my dad buy me a compact set of speakers that I could plug into my disc-man so that I could listen to classical music in the hotel room! So I think you can see why I find this OUTRAGEOUS! If it weren’t for the fact that I have no idea how boycotting radio stations can be done (unlike other things, they can’t exactly tell what their ratings are by looking at listener numbers… they can’t detect who is tuning into omni-directional radio waves!), I would add this new owner’s other stations to the growing list of things that I refuse to have anything to do with.

The past two nights I have been listening to WGBH’s all jazz show that they play every night to try a little variety, but I think I’ll switch back to 102.5 before I can’t do that anymore.

The more things change, the less they stay the same.

Shorah tei, gah’ro WCRB!

Yep

March 31st, 2006 Taniith

Ok, so I should probably poast something here before certain people get on my case for not saying anything or find out from other people. So I went and got my license yesterday along with another person who was using the same driving school. Had to get up at 6:30 *oy* and was the second person of the day (behind that girl, who I ‘let’ go first ;P). Mike, the ex-marine state trooper, was really polite to the girl, but made her do a ton of stuff (even though the woman from the driving school had told us he was the ‘go around the block’ guy for Watertown). Then, I got in the front seat and he was all business. Hell, he was rushing me: “quickly adjust your mirrors and pull out”, “Come on, make this light… faster, faster!”, and in a 10mph parking lot: “Come on, just go back to my squad car, a little faster…. faster…. straight ahead…..” and so on. I guess he really didn’t want to be there, or he just decided early on that I knew what I was doing because after the (less than) two minutes spent driving around the block to get back to his car, all I had to do was parallel park. And he even stopped me in the middle of doing that, handed me my signed permit and left. That’s an ex-marine for ya ;P

So yeah. Me and my dad are currently in the process of deciding what to do about getting a car. The list currently stands at investigating used Volvos, Subarus and Hondas.

PS: To those who were requesting…. one of those more emotional/less computer and gaming oriented poasts might be quite close. Also another short story type poast ;P

Watering the Roots

March 30th, 2006 Taniith

Just doing my civic duty as a member of the cavern by repoasting this:

*start quote*

We here are TweekCorp enjoy the odd Meme as shown by the T Shirt Ninja incident.

However when the collective heads were put together we considered the usage of the Meme for something more worthy than trying to build an army of T Shirt Ninja’s to destroy the Pirates.

The mission should you choose to except it;

Cyan are trying to show potential investors that UruLive is worth investing in and bringing back (they are even trying to get a Mac version which is nifty keen). So far Until Uru has almost 2000 accounts which is cool. But we still want the word to spread to reach the ears of people who may not have even heard of Uru but would love it if they had.

I present to you the following advertisement I made as the Meme;

Until Uru

If you want to help Cyan bring back UruLive then please post this on your blogs, as your friends and family to post it on their blogs…even if they have no intention of playing or even like the game, because through them it could spread to someone who does want to play.

I would like to see this spread across the blogosphere reaching as many people as possible and I am sure there are other people who feel the same.

Remember to have the advert link to http://plasma.cyanworlds.com/

*end quote*

It makes a good point…. even if you don’t give a crap about URU or Myst or computer games becoming more than ways to promote violence, you might still have friends who do! So take a moment to think about if you might and if you wanna repoast some of this, those of you who have blogs.

Web Hosting

March 29th, 2006 Taniith

Ok, I know it has been mentioned to me that I haven’t made a nice juicy emotional poast in a while. Bear with me, I’m sure one will come along soon ;P

Anyway, so I’m looking to buy some server space for myself soon. Afterall, it never hurts to start myself a nice portfolio site early on, and having hosting space and website coding opportunities is a good idea.

So, I know a few people who read this will have some good input (or will be married to someone with good input ;P), so I’m throwing it out there for some advice/suggestions. Obviously I’m not about to go buy a server and run it from home, so that mean a nice monthly plan. At the moment, I am really interested in this service. 12 gigs space and 250 gigs per month bandwidth, good features and site creation/security along with email services. Good price too.

Another one that I came across is this one. I haven’t really read through it too much at this point, but I looked at the pricing sheet a little while back and I remember it looking good. I’m still sort of leaning toward the first site I listed though. Its hard to know who is reputable or reliable, so I figured I see what people think of those two, or if anyone knows of a good host with good uptime, bandwidth, space and pricing.

Anyway, yeah….. Keep in mind that this would also allow for more photos on the blog as I would have space for them ;P

Any feedback is welcome gratefully ;D

Big O! Showtime!

March 29th, 2006 Taniith

Ok, so I finished Big O last night (mind you, 26 episodes at 20+ minutes each = roughly 9 hours). I have to say, that it is far better than I ever thought it was and it ranks among my favorite TV series of all time. The characters have depth, the story is engaging and never what you expect, and it certainly doesn’t follow any of the molds I mentioned bellow about giant robots or anything like that. I couldn’t believe what happened at the end and how it all truly tied in with what had happened 26 episodes earlier.

Hopefully the petition that is being made will have an effect, and the crazy corporate types will approve a third season. I have no clue how they could add more to it over 13 episodes, but they were already planning a third season from the beginning it seems.

Come to think of it….. I just made a few more connection about the story in my head just by writing this and looking at the title for the poast. What a great show!

Returning

March 28th, 2006 Taniith

You gotta love a little good anime. I finally got the DVDs of some of my favorite shows from when I was younger…. back when I watched Cartoon Network all the time and their Toonami block was fairly new. 3 sets: Big O, Big O II, and a great one season show call Outlaw Star. These are some of the more futuristic anime shows.

Outlaw Star is set many years in the future after space has been colonized. It follows a guy who is suddenly uprooted from the planet where he has been living by an outlaw… at which point he himself becomes an outlaw and comes into possession of the most powerful ship around. Yeah, I realize it is one of those anime molds, but it works for this one ;P Besides, what anime isn’t complete without using at least one overused mold?

Big O is set in a world where civilization was destroyed. The premise is that 40 years prior to the show’s opening, everyone on the planet lost their memories. Everything was in ruin, but people managed to rebuild and figure out how to use thing like electricity and cars and all that. It follows a negotiator who also happens to be in possession of a giant robot (mold?) called Big O… he is its Dominus of Megadeus (aka, big god or something in latin? Can never remember). Anyway, as far as I can tell (and note that I never got to see the whole series, and a 3rd season to tie things up is trying to get funding), these Megadeuses were semi-sentient robots created by man ith unimaginable power, and it seems like they might have destroyed civilization in retribution for man’s having sought to be “as powerful as god.” The startup for them checks for the correct pilot, saying “Cast in the name of God…. Ye not guilty.”

Two very good anime shows…. anyone wants to watch I’d be happy to show some or *maybe* lend the DVDs out. Of course, I could just bring them to Animefest if I were invited ;P *hint hint, wink wink*

I was gonna say some stuff about web hosting here (I’m searching for some good server space), but I guess that can wait for another poast.

TTFN!

*Lightbulb*

March 25th, 2006 Taniith

I just had a thought. Someone (maybe Marty, but some tech director anyway) once told me about a fun concept. Essentially, at the end of the show you have a sort of… role reversal. The techies become actors and the actors become techies…. of course, it has to be well prepared and the techs have to set everything so that the actors can do it easily. Otherwise, you do it really low tech and don’t bother with complex sound/light cues.

Essentially, the techies go and do a mini-version of the play. Late at night before the strike, just for fun. Maybe we should do that for this show ;P. I wonder if I could convince Marty… I mean, he was pushing to get me to just be in a skit in Advanced Theater (tried to make Ms. Yolles say I couldn’t pass unless I did…). How could he refuse this… well, besides saying we don’t have enough tech and whatnot to do it.

Wait, I’ve got it…. One Man Les Mis (follow by one man trapped in the closet of course ;P).

Of course, I would still need to get over the whole stage fright thing, but since it would just be among friends and for fun I could probably do it.

Javert…. Here I Come!!!
