You know how they say that you don’t fully appreciate something until it is gone? Well, I most certainly agree. The top example on my list (it is currently higher than ‘all my friends are gone for several months’) is the fact that my dad came back from Hawaii yesterday. If you don’t get it, check some recent posts and it sohuld beomce clear.
:( Well atleast now I have a better idea of what life will be like in about five years…. unless I get stuck having to get roomates at that point like my brother.
*sigh*

I stopped by Beaver on Tuesday to drop off my piece for the alumni art exhibit, and I spent some time talking to a few people. I noticed when I stopped in the front office that there was a strange thing on the wall with a blue glowing circle and a cat-5 cable going to a network port. Then when I wwas in the cafateria with Marty I noticed another one on the chimney… thats when it clicked in my head. So I went to IT and asked Ms. Ausman if I was right.
Now, last year I had a long discussion with Dina (Cohen… the other IT person?) about the possibility of some approved way of using personal computers on the Beaver network to get internet access. Now, people just plug in and it works, but that is not secure and IT was always angry when they did it. Dina was telling me about some plan for making people log their network card NATs to be able to use the network, and I asked about Wifi. Her response was that they were planning to do that because it was the logical next step after the above, but that it likely wouldn’t happen until atleast this approaching year. I remember asking about the problem of needing a lot of transmitters because of the way the building has a way of screwing with signals (cell-phone service anyone?!), and she said it was only a matter of having enough of them spread around to make sure everything was covered.
So you see where the lightbulb came from when I saw two of these things hooked into network jacks. Pat told me I was right, and that she had tried to hide most of them in offices but that the cafeteria one was so visible because that possition allows it to help with the main hallway (the chimney is in line with the doors). Good thinking, I think. She also told me that whenever students ask her what it is (there are students there for preseason sports), she tells them it is a security camera and it is electrified :D. I like the way she thinks o_0
Oh, and parking is rediculous… worse than when the camp was going! Apparent;y they just started clearing the area, and I was told that the half of the tennis courts that are left are going to get lines and become extra parking. That, along with the plan I already knew of cutting down some of the trees and widening the driveway to add more spaces, should help a bit… but it is going to suck for parking this year! Maybe they’ll raise the driving age a bit and less people will have cars at Beaver :)
Riiiight :(

Wow… this is kinda nuts. I’ve been spending my days lately sitting around playing ‘Spider Solitare’ and listening to all the songs I’ve downloaded from Jonathan Coulton’s blog. There are a lot of good ones, but besides the ones I have already pointed out, theres another one that is starting to grow on me for various reasons. It’s called I Will.
*shrug* I just like it is all… what, why are you looking at me like I have a some other reason why I like it?
*runs*

I would think this was cool, but my sister’s blog had the exact same number come up (unless she put in my blog and changed the code when she poasted it to show hers….)
Oh, and I finally found the option to turn off the WYSIWYG editor for my account…. so now it doesn’t screw up html anymore!

Clicky
These people are claiming that they know how to produce free energy using magnets. Uhh…. right. I mean, I’m all for trying, but it seems strange that the first time I hear about something like this on GOOGLE VIDEO! If it were plausible, don’t you think it would be on, say, the NEWS?!
Bah, give me a good old fashioned (10,000 years that is) ZPM ;p
edit: Apparently there is a whole article about this here. That’ll teach me to click the link before reading the forum thread!
edit2: Another article here, and the company website here.

I just watched Hotel Rawanda. You know, I think I understand why my dad stopped me from watching it when we were trying to pick a movie to see on my birthday a year or two ago. I mean…. wow. Kinda hard to comprehend. It things like that movie that make me feel like I should read the news from time to time.
Yeah

I think I’m starting to understand why they left me on the the mailing list for the play I pulled out of (and yes, I was told that they would leave me on, its not a mistake)… I read these emails and have his intense urge to go work on stuff. I guess it goes to show you: if they had waited until things started going before getting me to come in, I would have ended up pulling voluntary midnight-plus nights for fun.
