I dream of taking flight in an ambiguous world filled with vague clouds and shadowed air…Then I wake up and forget the whole thing

1 Tb

October 29th, 2006 Kiirel

You know something nuts? I will soon have over 1 terabyte of harddrive space in my room. For those who don’t know, that is 1000 gigabytes, a gigabyte being 1000 megabytes. I just ordered my second 400 Gb Seagate external drive because my first one is getting full. If When I have to order a third one, I will be very happy that these things are designed to stack… also that I always get the ones with firewire so I can link them together to the computer on one cable.

No, I’m not saying all my drives are full, but the externals serve a seperate purpose from the internals… especially since they can easilly be switched between computers. 120Gb drive along with a 40Gb drive on my desktop, 200Gb in my workstation, 400Gb on my first drive, and now another 400Gb is 1.16Tb of space. My desktop is pretty full, but my workstation is not. The current external has a lot of backup stuff, but also a large number of uncompressed video and audio files, along with inumberable photos and textures and what not. Sufficed to say, I don’t plan on filling the second drive *completely* immediately… but its not too far off once I finish the CDIA/do some real work.

Oh, and did I mention I love these old Doctor Who episodes? O_o… what?

Ronan

October 28th, 2006 Kiirel

Just an FYI… they rolled out a new version of Wordpress today (codename Ronan). I just finished testing the upgrades on the backup blog (created for just this sort of thing ;p), and it seems to work dandilly. Hopefully I can get around to rolling it out here sometime today, but if not today then soon. Just be away if things seem screwed up for a bit that it is just part of the upgrading process.

Cheers

I Knew I Was Right

October 23rd, 2006 Kiirel

So, I’ve started watching episodes (well, episode… but more are coming) of the Fourth Doctor (that’s Tom Baker for those not in the know) (Thats the one with the scarf for those really out of it). So in this episode, I suddenly realised something amazing: the Doctor (the last Timelord (eventually, not at that point, but meh)… the guy who travels through time in his Tardis) was driving a Model T.

Yes, you read that right… a time traveller in a Model T. And don’t try to say “oh, it was just the time period” because there were other main people in the episode driving all sorts of other stuff.

I knew I was right! (A lot of people don’t seem to see the humor in this….. crazy nay-sayers!)

Staying On Top of Things

October 23rd, 2006 Kiirel

Ok boys and girls, today we are going to learn a valuable lesson. I like to call this “checking for updates and following through.”

Last night, my brother IMed me to say that there was an error caused by my comment spam protection. I had seen this happen before to me, but I didn’t know how to fix it (and it happened so rarely) so I just let it go. Well, today I finally went to the plugins tab and clicked through to the webpage for that plugin. Lo and behold, the guy released a new version about a week after I started using it that fixed this problem, and a few weeks later he released another release with added funcitonality on the backend.

Now, I know you are probably thinking, ‘oh well, so you missed an update. At least its done with now.’ not so much. The truth is, I have a folder on my harddrive filled with both updates to current plugins and lots of new and cool ones… I just havn’t gone to the trouble of installing them yet. Even more, I have a folder in my favorites with links to many many websites with some of the cool plugins I have come across. Hopefully I will get around to indtalling all (or atleast some) of these soon. :(

Oh, and Marjorie…. did you open the present yet? :)

Vroom Vroom Pt…… umm, Pt.

October 20th, 2006 Kiirel

;p

This is the latest render. I like how it looks, but unfortunately Andrew feels that I need to do more (read any) texturing work on the buildings. On the up side of that, he said it was because the car is beautifully done, and that the buildings dont acurately reflect my “talent”… so I guess I should work on the buildings some more ;p

Yes, that is a flying Model T… yes the wheels are connected and not just floating near the car, and yes it does have a flux capacitor on the dashboard (not that you can see it here…)

Oh, and yes, that is the Tardis off on the side there :P.

The full image is a full quality 1280×1024 render… great for backgrounds ;p

Poor Sol

October 20th, 2006 Kiirel

I have to admit… I cryed in that scene at the end of Galactica tonight. Stupid crowd taking Adama away just as he was trying to comfort Sol. I don’t feel quite so bad for Starbuck, but it still sucks to go through all that just to find out its not even her damned kid! And what about the Pegasus?! I mean, sure it was useful to take out those Basestars, but now they are all the more defenseless! And is Lee going to be demoted now since he’s a commander with no ship to command? Or is Sol gonna give up and resign from the Colonial Fleet and go civilian? And what about Baltar and the Cylons?! Damn! They did a fracking (eh? :D) good job… my faith and desire to watch this show is now back in full!

Oh, and I really liked the detail on the repair robots on Doctor Who… tres sweet and nicely done. Though I still want to know how the hell what’s-her-name was able to look into the Doctor’s mind. My first reaction at that was: “OMG…. is she a Time Lord’s child?!” because I have heard things about how the first Doctor was on earth to visit his grand-daughter who lived there (here? then? meh?). Would have been a strange twist, but then they would have to deal with the whole ‘Last Timelord’ thing not being true…

Oh well…. I cried for Sol. That’s what matters, right?

Recording Phones

October 19th, 2006 Kiirel

So my phone (yes, a RAZR… the ones before they had the ipod-versions) has this feature whereby you can record sounds into it and use them as ringtones. When I first got it, I found a copy of the Stargate Atlantis alarm noise, and played it really loud from my computer while holding the phone next to the speakers. When played back in the sounds thing, it sounds great… when played back as a ring-tone, it uses a different speaker (the normal ringtones it comes with use the other big speaker) and it is too quiet to be useful. I just tried it again with another sound, and (of course) had the same result. However, this one works just a tad better by the nature of the sound…. and I have been keeping my phone on vibrate anyway, so the ringtone doesn’t matter.

So no, my phone has the Fifth Doctor’s version of the Doctor Who theme as its ringtone ;D

I jsut felt like ranting/showing off ;p
