Taniith’s Relto

They have started releasing info on the third Stargate series, currently codenamed Stargate Universe. Apparently the intention is to have it stand more on its own and be less of an SG1 spin-off than Atlantis was, while still being true to the Stargate universe (no pun intented). Also, it will apparently also explain/use the ninth chevron that has never been used to date. MGM is building up the funding and it is supposed to… erm… do something in early 2008. I’m not sure if that is supposed to be air or sell around for someone to show it. The thing that has been holding back development of the show is that the executive producers of the franchise are wrapping up production of the first two SG1 movies (se to air this fall), and then they will start a-writin’

Oh, and that Galactica season finale was awesome! And somehow when he saw that dreidis contact and started following it, I just knew who it was gonna be. I guess now we know who all 5 of the, erm, final 5 are. Though I didn’t really like that silly zoom-out thing at the end there.

Oh well, back to work.

Hey everyone! I thought that I would take a moment to actually post some pictures of my recent work (and in so doing not actually work on animation… ;p). Before vacation, we went over some cool rendering techniques including how to do basic caustics; look it up if you dont know what that is, but essentially it has to do with those pretty patterns under a glass filled with water after the light has bounced around a bit.

After the demo, Andrew told us to mess around with caustics and to try applying it to one of our models. I was sick of my car after the stuff we had learned the previous few days, so I chose… well, you’ll see below :). I know its not exactly realistic, but they look really cool!

Also, before I show then let me jsut say that clickign a thumbnail will show you a full 1280×1024 version of the image; perfect for backgrounds and very small posters ;D. Oh, and if you like seeing my work, then just wait about a month…. that’s all I’m going to say (*snicker*). So without further ado, I present das pictures.

Not going to write much, but I will say this. Everyone in my class (myself included) are rougly 3 weeks behind (not including vacation). Many people are much farther than that. So today we got back from vacation to the wonderful (note my sarcasm) news that we were starting over from the start of animation III and so the planned portfolio week and 3 weeks of practicum are being pushed back. So now we only have 2 weeks for practicum and we aren’t even going to be finishing a project…. just starting it for someone else. Asset creation as the call it.

Hell, I’m the only person even being allowed to use my character and original story because I made such a fuss about it! Granted that most people don’t even have anything close enough to done to actually animate with, but the two other people that do are just giving in and using the stupid “generic man” thing to animate.

Sufficed to say, I felt like today would suck, and I was right. Except now its the rest of the class.

Vacation doesn’t mean stop working. All vacation means is go to sleep later, get up later, keep working, rinse and repeat. *sigh*

Staying the same? You know, I’m starting to feel like this is just a crappy time of year. This time of year sucked last year, and it is just as bad this year. And of course, this year I don’t have the same support structure I had last year…. so yeah, things kinda suck. I wont go into huge details only because it would take far too long to write it all down. But you know, its strange…. it seems like whenever I get the most depressed or burnt out or whatever, people start asking me for advice or help or whatever else. As though I didn’t have enough of my own problems to deal with! Now granted its not their faults for asking and I’m not mad at anyone, but its certainly not good for my mental well-being, eh?

Oh well, must keep pushing on. Vacation next week, and if I can just get back on track I can finish this damned project (with a LOT of stuff cut of course) and be on my way. Hopefully the next time I try to do an organic, the software won’t decide to undo my work every couple of days for no reason…..

Yeah, so I mentioned it to my dad, and now we’re going! Granted we are stuck on the right side, but we are far enough back that it shouldn’t be too much of a problem (row S…. 19 by my calculations). WOOOT!
