Funny, or Something Like It

I have a couple of quick things to recount today. (more…)

Epic Leaping

September 9th, 2009 Kiirel

I was doing the dishes just now, and a fantastic idea came into my head. Picture this: a live-action (as in on stage), version of the Quantum Leap intro! Complete with the first version of the song, not that stupid remix from the fourth season. This, I think, would be hilarious. I picture it similar to the Ed Sullivan show gag in Forever Plaid (good stuff starts at 2:10). Sam, of course, doesn’t leave the stage, but the other people involved show up from all sides (or even audience, or wherever), and set a quick costume piece that he can throw on, followed by a quick scene for a few seconds, and then on to the next one. Al, of course, will pop in and out and progressively more outrageous and ridiculous costumes. And then, possibly, there would be some cheesy lighting effect to simulate the blue lightning of leaping.

It would be epic… come on, admit it. It would be even better than the on-stage space battle idea that those of us in the booth came up with last spring during New Voices.

That is all.

I Wanna See…

July 18th, 2009 Kiirel

Ok, one more quick one for the night. Now added to my ‘to see’ list:
-Wicked
-Man of La Mancha
-Ragtime (re-see)

This Wicked music is really cool, and it was pretty easy to figure out the basic story just by listening to it. Then I check Wikipedia, and it sounds really cool. What an awesome idea for a story! Just what I need, another show with good music that’s mostly female parts… right? Not that that has every stopped me singing before! :D

I even gave up gender-correcting lyrics in such easily fixed ones as ‘On My Own’ :p

RENT!

July 18th, 2009 Kiirel

My sister took me to see RENT on Thursday, as a belated 21st birthday present (or, in actuality, it worked out to be a half-birthday present ;D). It was totally awesome!

Maintenance Day

July 13th, 2009 Kiirel

We had my maintenance day at the FLC today. Unfortunately, almost no one showed up. It was essentially me, Paul, someone who I should know but only vaguely recognize, and this older guy who used to do lighting at various places but hasn’t in a while. It was cool to talk with him, and we’re going to try to get him to do some designing (since there are never enough LDs, Paul can rarely make it, and I’m in Worcester and can’t really volunteer). We mostly cleaned all the fixtures and dealt with the cable situation. There were something like 11 50′ cables (and a few longer ones), which helps to explain why there are always these huge coils in the dimmer loft, and how we never have enough cable. We’re going to cut a bunch of it.

Paul and I also had a chance to discuss some thoughts Jon and I had talked about, namely thoughts on a new board. Based on how some of the conversation went today, I’m getting the feeling he might be thinking I’ll want the job at some point. I mean, unless something great comes up, I intend to work in a Massachusetts studio and probably live somewhere more in the general area of home than Worcester, so it could happen. Not for a minimum of several year though, that’s for sure! It sounds like one of his big pushes, that people aren’t being totally receptive to, is the idea of ‘passing it on’ to the next group of people. At the very least, a bigger volunteer base needs to be stirred up, which I totally agree with. It seems like the board stays mostly stagnant, mostly the same groups go up for auditions, and its mostly the same techs working on stuff. Not the best situation, eh?

Ok, sleep time.

I think I may have figured out why I keep doing theater, despite growing discontent.

That Sinking Feeling

May 22nd, 2009 Kiirel

In case you were unaware, the balk part of the Footlight Club is currently sinking into the ground.

Did you catch that? Here, let me say it a little louder. PART OF THE FLC IS SINKING INTO THE GROUND. *ugh* sometimes I wonder why I am here…. but then I remember all the ridiculous circumstances and crappy equipment keep life interesting.

And how often to you get discussions like the ‘he lost the buff’ from last year? ;D

I tell ya though, I do not feel like going in there for the focus tomorrow morning. It sure was nice to have Marty around today to give me a hand with the complicated stuff. I got to be *his* boss today (to which, I am told, Marjorie started quoting Star Wars over, so a win win).
